Review:

Trevor isn't Dear Evan Hansen, but judging from the number of kids who were in the audience, parents feel it's close enough.

The theme is a little heavy handed: it's OK to be different, especially if you're gay. The vitality of the youthful troupe keeps the show going at a fast clip, and the cast, especially Holden William Hagelberger, as the lead, is wildly talented. Singing, dancing, acting, these young performers can do it all. As Pinky, the heart throb, Sammy Dell brings an unexpected sensitivity; we have hopes that he'll develop into an enlightened adult. The Mean Girls here are really mean; there is no hope for them.

Trevor, the character, is buoyed up by his love for Diana Ross, beautifully played by Yasmeen Sulieman; her voice is heavenly, and more importantly, her gowns are to die for.

For many of us, Trevor’s milieu is painful. It takes us back to those bad old days of middle and high school, where the cliques of the cool kids ruled supreme. But as for me, I take comfort in the fact that I'm here at the theater, and the football hero and prom queen are nowhere in sight.
