Having avoided any of Marc Camoletti's 15,800 worldwide productions of his biggest hit for more than four decades, the time seemed right to see what the fuss was about. We braved a horrid squall, no air conditioning in an old but lovely theatre, and crowds from children to seniors for the last two, side seats at a late night performance. Found: a simple farce about a roue (really a pretty nice guy, as played by David Marchal) who spreads his affections among three "fiancis." They're airline stewards from America (Marie Leburge), Germany (Brigitte Margerin), and France (Emmanuelle Galabru), who, because of their schedules, never meet at Bernard's airport area apartment... until the farce kicks off with schedules being delayed and upped. Bernard's bewildered friend Robert (star Thierry Beccaro) and wise-cracking maid (Christiane Muller) help him get untangled while they get the opposite.
Doors get a workout from the fiancis being pushed unknowingly out of each other's sight, but it's the friends who get exhausted. Drunk a bit, too. Would you believe everyone ends happy?
