Review:

Siamese Sex Show is a rap musical set in a dystopian USA ruled by Monocorp, a conglomerate headed by a power-hungry CEO (Keith E. Wright) who has started a campaign to make intimacy illegal. In its place, people will be obliged to take emotional comfort from “the love light,” a pseudo-sex product manufactured by the conglomerate.

Siamese Sex Show ventures deep into comic-strip territory, with cartoonish characters filling the stage, dancing, singing and clashing non-stop, powered by a loud, hard-driving hip-hop score which includes raps by Kool Keith, Mistah Fab and J Diggs. When you add loud noises, video projection and outrageous costumes to the mix, you’ve got a wild, swirling spectacle to watch, one which doesn’t let up in intensity or action for the whole of its ninety frenetic minutes.

Papageorge, a San Francisco-based music producer, has turned the piece into a morality tale, with good battling evil in bawdy, satirical fashion. As the USA teeters on the brink of destruction, four doughty pop stars meet in an underground speakeasy to plot a revolt against the Monocorp baddies. Using their wits–and a little magic--they proceed to turn themselves into super-heroes and manage to save the world. Would that it were only that easy.

Siamese Sex Show is Papageorge’s first musical, which perhaps explains its unevenness—many scenes work, some don’t—but the skilled, high-spirited cast has succeeded at turning the bizarre proceedings into an entertaining romp.
